BataviaRobert L. PERKINS, 89, of Batavia passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa (note: in Wapello Co., IA). In accordance with his wishes his body has been cremated. Private interment of cremains will be in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, IA (note: in Dallas Co., IA). Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield is assisting the family.
Bob was born on December 5, 1933 in Clarinda, IA to Lloyd W. and Virginia E. WINDEN PERKINS. He spent his childhood in Clarinda until he joined the United States Army in 1953 during the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict). He was quickly sent off to Korea where he was stationed until the end of the war. After his service was complete Bob returned to Clarinda and was united in marriage to Joyce Ann AGNES on October 1, 1953. The couple lived in Clarinda for several years and Bob worked at various places and rode in the local rodeos. After the couple started having children, Bradley Owen, Martin Lester, Robert Harold, Nichole Ann and Jason "Jay" Matthew, Joyce said no more rodeos.
The couple moved their family to Texas and then Arizona before moving back to Iowa and settling in Batavia in 2009. Bob worked as a truck driver and bus driver and in his free time worked on campers. Bob was known to everyone as a nice guy and a good friend, he was always there to lend a helping hand around the town of Batavia.
He is survived by a sister, Mary PERKINS of Mesa, AZ, several nieces and nephews and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, four sons, Bradley, Martin, Robert, Jay, a daughter, Nichole Ann, a brother, Richard PERKINS, and two sisters, Jackie FLANNAGAN and Patricia SMITH.
