GEORGE GIBBS PASSES AWAY AT HOSPITAL

Prominent county farmer succumbs around 9:00 o'clock this morning

George A. GIBBS, 70, prominent farmer of Jefferson county, passed away suddenly this morning around 9:00 o'clock at the Jefferson county hospital.

Mr. GIBBS had been in failing health for the past year but was only brought to the hospital yesterday.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church at 2:00 p.m. Rev. A. P. Keast will officiate.

The body was taken to the Weston Behner funeral home.

Mr. GIBBS was born on August 27, 1873 near Bonaparte, Ia. He was united in marriage to Lissa C. CREIGHTON on June 8, 1910. He was the son of the late Thomas and Caroline GIBBS.

Mr. GIBBS was employed with the C. B. and Q. railroad for 27 years in Ottumwa before moving to the farm southeast of Fairfield.

He was a member of the Plymouth Congregational church in Ottumwa.

He is survived by his wife, Lissa and one son George C. GIBBS of Burlington. Two sisters, Mrs. George RICKER of Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Herman BREMHORST, Ottumwa and two brothers, John W. GIBBS of Ottumwa and Charles W. GIBBS of Galesburg. Two granddaughters also survive, Anne Lissa and Lu Etta Joyce GIBBS.

Funeral Services For George GIBBS To Be Held Sunday, Sept. 26

Funeral services for George A. GIBBS, prominent Jefferson county farmer who died around 9:00 o'clock yesterday morning, will be held at the Weston Behner Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Rev. A. P. Keast will have charge of the services. Burial will take place at the Evergreen cemetery.

OBITUARY

George Alexander GIBBS, son of the late Thomas and Caroline GIBBS, was born August 27, 1873 near Bonaparte, Iowa and departed this life at the Jefferson county hospital in Fairfield, Iowa, Sept. 23, 1943 at the age of 70 years and 26 days.

On June 8 ,1910 (sic) he was united in marriage to Lissa C. CREIGHTON. To this union one son, George was born.

He was employed with the C. B. & Q. railroad for 27 years in Ottumwa before moving to the farm southeast of Fairfield in Cedar Township. He was engaged in farming until the past year when he retired because of failing health although he continued to live on the farm.

At the time of his death he was a member of Plymouth Congregational church in Ottumwa.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Lissa, and one son, George Creighton GIBBS of Burlington, Iowa; two granddaughters, Anne Lissa and Lu Etta Joyce GIBBS; Two sisters, Mrs. Geo. RICKER of Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Herman BREMHORST; two brothers, Charles W. GIBBS, Galesburg, Ill. and John H. GIBBS of Ottumwa; one half brother, Harry C. MOON, Ottumwa.

He was a loved and respected citizen and will be missed by his many friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held at the Weston Behner Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. A. P. Keast of Fairfield, Sunday afternoon, Sept. 26th at 2:00 p.m. Interment in the Evergreen cemetery.
