JANET ELAINE FARRIER
Brighton

Janet Elaine FARRIER, 85, passed away at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa, on July 29, 2023 (note: in Washington Co., IA). She was born May 16, 1938, in Ottumwa Iowa, the daughter of William Russell and Lola Adoris (McBURNEY) SASSEEN of Packwood. Janet grew up in Packwood and graduated from High School in 1955. She married Merle Leo FARRIER on April 8, 1956, they made their home on a farm north of Brighton while caring for their two children Kim Denise and Lee M.

Janet managed the family business as a bookkeeper of the Brighton Farmers Feed Store with her husband. She was the bookkeeper for Cobb Oil Co. for many years and was employed for 19 years at Walmart. Janet was known for her fun adventurous spirit and shared much joy with all who had the pleasure to spend time with her. Some of her unique adventures were completing RABGRAI at 40, learned to swim in her 50s, engaged with the Red Hat Society in her 60s, traveling to Florida in her 70s, and at 80 she rode in a hot air balloon and took an Alaskan Cruise. She has been a cancer survivor for 19 years and worked to help create "Fishing for a Cure" raising money for the American Cancer Society. Making greeting cards became her passion as she has blessed so many people with her kind words and thoughtfulness. Her biggest joy was spoiling her granddaughters with lots of love and special memories.

Janet is survived by her two children: Kim FARRIER (Felicia LEECE) of Largo, Florida, Lee FARRIER (Lori) of St. Peters Missouri; four grandchildren: Madison (Josh HICKS), Makenna (Cole KIZER), Milyn and Macie FARRIER; and one brother, John SASSEEN (Mary); and 5 sisters Joyce BROWN (Dale), Sandy VOGEL, Debbie WONDERLICH (Randy), Donna SASSEEN, Marty CHANDLER (Virgil); and many nieces and nephews.
