Mt. PleasantEdith "Rose" SHANHOLTZER, 98, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at Savanna Heights of Mt. Pleasant (note: in Henry Co., IA).
Rose was born on October 4, 1924, in Buchanan Township of Jefferson County, the daughter of Edward W. and Jennie (STREEBY) McCARTY. Rose was united in marriage to Thomas J. SHANHOLTZER on December 22, 1945, in Butte, Montana. In the 1950s, Rose drove a truck and hauled gravel from Triangle Quarries. Later she was employed at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Heatilator and Metromail both of Mt. Pleasant. Rose accepted Jesus as her Savior at a young age, and was the last of a family of seven siblings. She loved to read Westerns.
Rose is survived by a daughter, Sandra Joy PRICKETT, of Lockridge, five grandchildren, Kathleen HERROD, Michael Todd SHANHOLTZER, Thomas R. SHANHOLTZER, all of Oklahoma, Shannon PRICKETT of California and Camara COSGROVE of Tama, 10 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Michael Lawrence SHANHOLTZER, two brothers and four sisters.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Batavia Cemetery in Batavia. According to her wishes cremation has been entrusted to the care of Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.
