SalemJack THORNTON, 65, of Salem passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant (note: in Henry Co., IA).
Jack was born on January 31, 1958, in Jefferson County, Iowa, the son of Claude Albert and Betty Ann (DAVIS) THORNTON. Jack was united in marriage to Becky FETTERMAN on October 2, 1982, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant. Jack worked for Blue Bird Midwest for 16 years until it closed in 2003. He then went to work for Lynn Whaley for 20 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, work the land, raise his cows and he had a love for International tractors. Jack was always there to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. He enjoyed country music and attended many jam sessions. Most of all, his family and grandkids were his life.
Jack is survived by his wife of 40 years, Becky, his children, Megan (Jarod) CONRAD and Natasha (Tommy GATLIN) THORNTON, all of Salem, his grandchildren, Chayse, Kota and Val, his brother, Steve (Christina) THORNTON of Mt. Pleasant, his sisters, Rhonda (Bob) FETTERMAN and Chris (Tim) JAYNE, all of Mt. Pleasant, and Claudia DAVIS of Davenport, and his mother-in-law, Gee Gee FETTERMAN of Salem, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Albert THORNTON, his father (in-law) Nathan (Shorty) FETTERMAN and a brother-in-law, Ray (Skeeter) DAVIS.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. The family will not be present. A memorial has been established to the Salem Fire and Rescue Association in his memory. According to his wishes cremation will be accorded after the calling hours on Thursday.
