RICHARD GAINES BURIED TODAY

The funeral services for Richard GAINES were held this morning at ten o'clock in charge of Rev. Mosser of the Presbyterian church and the remains were laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. GAINES, who was one of the best known and highly respected residents of this city, died Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the Jefferson County hospital after an illness of some time.

He was born June 10 (sic - January 10), 1839 and in 1844 came to this county, where he has since resided. On May 21, 1866, in this city, he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret MORGAN, who passed away September 8, 1896. To them were born four sons: R. C., who died several years ago, and L. O., F. D. and F. M., all of this city. Since the death of his wife Mr. GAINES has made his home with his son, L. O. GAINES. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Frank BLACK.

He was an active "Old Settler," always having charge of the free coffee Old Settlers' Day.

For many years Mr. GAINES and his sons have owned the hardware store on the west side of the square, where he has made many friends. He was a member of the Congregational church and was a member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge, No. 5.
