Rites Tuesday For Ed FRITTS, Former Mayor

Edward W. "Ed" FRITTS, former mayor of Fairfield and former longtime businessman in the community, died Sunday morning at the Jefferson County Hospital where he had been a patient the past 6½ days. He had been in failing health the past several years.

Last rites will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Weston Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Wilson Hyde in charge. Masonic rites will be conducted at the grave in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. FRITTS and family moved to Fairfield July 15, 1936, and he joined in partnership with John Auckland in the oil business.

FRITTS later bought out Auckland and the firm became known as the Fritts Oil Co. and is located on the southwest corner of the square. Ed FRITTS retired in 1957 and sold the oil company and auto parts business to his son, John, who now operates the firm.

Mr. FRITTS was elected mayor of Fairfield in 1943, and re-elected in 1945, serving two complete terms.

Edward W. FRITTS, 80, was born July 4, 1891, in Sheffield, Ill., the son of James W. and Portia Jane PETERS FRITTS. He was married to Ruth M. METZ Sept. 24, 1913. The family home is at 309 W. Kirkwood.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clinton Lodge AF and AM; and he was a past watchman of Shepherds for White Shrine.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by one son, John E. FRITTS, and a daughter, Luella R. WOOLSEY, both of Fairfield; along with seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

FRITTS was preceded in death by two brothers and one granddaughter.
