Robert "Shannon" STUMP, 48, beloved son, brother and husband, died suddenly at home Jan. 1, 2022.

Shannon was born in 1973 to Robert and Sandra (HARRISON) STUMP in Fairfield, Iowa. Shannon was the baby and only boy in the family. Growing up in Libertyville, Shannon enjoyed riding dirt bikes, hunting and fishing. He would later discover a passion for sports and participated and earned the State Runner-up Award in the Elks National "Hoop Shoot" Contest in the 8-9 years age group with a broken arm. A 1991 graduate of Fairfield High School, he played football and basketball and had incredible speed on the field and court. His athleticism and fiercely competitive nature would lead to many accolades including MVP on several occasions. Shannon was a popular teen who made friends easily and kept in close contact with several until his death.

He attended the University of Iowa and graduated in 1996 with a bachelor of science in economics. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. After graduation, Shannon moved to the Kansas City area, where he worked at Bank One and would later serve as vice president of Citizens Bank in Lenexa, Kan.

Living in Kansas City would introduce Shannon to his wife, Michelle, via a blind date by a mutual friend. The two were married in 2005 and relocated to Iowa in 2006. Shannon would win his wife's everlasting love with his kind heart, quick wit, humbleness and generosity to others. Their first telephone conversation lasted over four hours.

Shannon worked at the family business, Libertyville Savings Bank. He served as vice president, where his business acumen and intelligence served his clients well. Shannon's charm and wit also won over numerous co-workers. Shannon was an owner and president of Village Investment Co. at the time of his death.

In 2013, Shannon earned a master of business administration from the University of Phoenix. He was a member of Delta Mu Delta, International Honor Society in Business Lambda Sigma Chapter.

Shannon and Michelle moved to Burlington, Iowa, in 2015, where he lived until his death. Shannon was a favorite among neighbors always lending a hand by shoveling snow, helping with yard work or lending an ear when needed. His compassion and generosity were openly shown to his friends and family.

An avid sports fan, Shonnon was an Iowa Hawkeye and Pittsburgh Steeler fan throughout his life. He enjoyed watching Game Day on ESPN and loved the recent man cave his wife had decorated for him as well as his special football tree at Christmas.

Shannon served as a caregiver to his mother and father for over 10 years taking them to appointments, setting up medications and handling any need that presented itself. His love for his parents was very deep and evident. His mother's death was very difficult for him and he would recall all of the times she served as his protector and friend. He resembled his father in many ways from physical appearance to temperament and intelligence. His wife would say Shannon was his father's "mini me." Shannon's idols were his parents and he received the best traits both of them uniquely possessed.

Shannon had four older sisters and unique relationships with each one. Susan, the oldest, and Shannon were 12 years apart in age. He almost always called her "Suz" and trusted and admired her. Having her first child, Noah, during the flood of 1993 in Iowa City, Shannon was first at the hospital and would later babysit on numerous occasions. Shannon respected and admired his sister Jill, second-oldest. He would often boast, "Jill is the most level-headed and does a great job." Laura, the middle child, was often described by Shannon as "the softie" and the most compassionate. Amber, often reference by Shannon as the "brother he never had", were closest in age. As with all siblings, there were disagreements but none of those moments would tarnish their love for each other.

Shannon was preceded in death by uncles, Eugene STUMP, Dan HARRISON and George HARRISON; as well as his mother, Sandra (HARRISON) STUMP. He is survived by his wife, Michelle; father, Robert; and four sisters, Susan (Mark) DANIELSON of Iowa City, Jill (Steve) BURNETT of Libertyville, Laura (Kerry) GASTON of Mount Sterling and Amber (Steve) McDOWELL (Keosauqua). Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Blake BURNETT, Colton BURNETT, Sydney BURNETT, Erin DANIELSON, Nathan DANIELSON, Noah DANIELSON, Miles (Emily) GASTON, Paige GASTON and Kacie (Josh) WOOD and Klint (Addy) McDOWELL. Shannon also leaves behind his much-loved dogs, Walter "the big baby"; Ruby "the little princess"; and Charlotte "the gentle one."

Shannon wished to be cremated and arrangements are being made at Prugh Funeral Home in Burlington, Iowa. There will be no service at this time but a private celebration of life may be held at a later date. No memorials or flowers are being requested but cards are appreciated. As an organ donor, Shannon's generosity continues after his death and will make a difference in numerous lives. His laugh, hugs, playfulness, and "I love you's" may not be heard out loud, felt or seen again but will forever be in the hearts of all who knew him.
