2 killed in county traffic accidents

Two Jefferson County residents were killed in separate traffic accidents early Sunday morning. ...

[Info dealing with the first accident, unrelated and therefore omitted.]

Killed in the second accident was Wayne Alden CLINGAN, 23, Batavia Route 2. Officers said CLINGAN died of injuries sustained when a 1979 GMC pick-up truck went out of control approximately one-half mile northwest of Abingdon at the intersection of 88th Ave. NW and 128th St. NW.

Officers estimaged the accident occurred about 3 a.m., but it was not discovered until a passer-by saw the wrecked vehicle about 6:30 a.m.

CLINGAN resided on a farm in the Abingdon area. According to the accident report, CLINGAN apparently lost control of the truck on 88th Ave. when approaching the intersection. The vehicle skidded sideways and became airborne, landing on its top on a fence owned by Florence Mitchell, Fairfield Route 2.

Fairfield firemen were summoned to the scene at 7 a.m., using the Jaws of Life device to free CLINGAN's body from the wreckage of the overturned truck.

[Info on the first accident victim, unrelated and omitted.]
