Front Page, Column 42 killed in county traffic accidents
Two Jefferson County residents were killed in separate traffic accidents early Sunday morning.
The Iowa Highway Patrol and the Jefferson County Sheriff's office said Kip Allen HAUPERT, 14, Fairfield Route 4, died at approximately 5 a.m. when he lost control of a motorcycle he was riding three miles northwest of the city on county road G-33, also known as the Brookville paving. The accident occurred at the Plum Grove corner.
According to officers, HAUPERT was westbound on the roadway and at a high rate of speed lost control of the cycle after passing a driveway at the Frank Redeker home on the south side of the pavement.
He apparently drove the vehicle along the south side of the embankment for 135 feet until he struck a road sign. Officers said HAUPERT was thrown a distance of 41 feet before his body hit a stop sign at the intersection of H-33 and 32nd AVE. NW. The motorcycle continued and landed on the opposite side of the intersection.
Authorities said residents in the area believe they heard the crash about 5 a.m., although HAUPERT's body wasn't found until after 6 a.m. ...
