EDGERTON, 16, dies in crash

Gerald EDGERTON, 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harley EDGERTON of Albia, was killed late Friday night in a traffic accident.

The EDGERTON family formerly resided in Fairfield, moving to Albia in 1977.

Young EDGERTON and a friend both died in the accident which occurred about 11 p.m. near Lovilla, northwest of Albia. Local friends learned of the accident early this morning. No further details were available.

In addition to his parents, EDGERTON is survived by one sister, Kim, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald TEETER, 409 E. Madison, Fairfield. He was a sophomore student at Albia High School.

Harley EDGERTON was affiliated with United Telephone Co. of Iowa here from 1964 until 1977 when he was named service supervisor for the Albia area.

Funeral services for Gerald Kirk EDGERTON, 16, who was killed late Friday night in a traffic accident northwest of Albia, will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia with the Rev. Jerry Brown officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, where graveside services will be held at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Following graveside services, the family will meet with friends at the Eagles Club dining room. Geyer Funeral Chapel in Albia is in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established in Gerald's name, payable to his family.

The EDGERTON youth and a friend, Todd Carter, 16 also of Albia, were killed seven miles north of Albia when their car collided with a truck on Iowa Highway 5. The car burst into flames after the crash. The driver of the truck and three passengers were hospitalized with multiple injuries.

Gerald was born April 3, 1964 at Fairfield, the son of Harley and Delores CANNY EDGERTON. The family moved from Fairfield to Albia in 1977. A sophomore at Albia High School, Gerald was active in football and other sports. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was especially fond of skeet shooting.

In addition to his parents he is survived by a sister, Kimberly Sue, at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Everett GOODRICH of Lucas and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald TEETER of Fairfield; great-grandparents, Susie EDGERTON, Boone, A.E. KINSEY, Blakesburg, Mary MILLER, Fairfield and Veda CANNY, Eldon.

COMMITTAL services for Gerald EDGERTON, 16, were held this afternoon in Evergreen Cemetery following funeral services in Albia. A former Fairfield resident, he was killed Friday night in a traffic accident. Gerald was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harley EDGERTON of Albia.
