The tragic accident which snuffed out eight lives ten miles east of Burlington (sic - Iowa) early Sunday morning struck deep at the heart of Fairfield and Ollie communities.
James E. SIX, a native of Fairfield, and three of his children were killed in the crash; and his wife's parents Mr. and Mrs. Lyle H. STANBROUGH, Ollie, were also killed. They were all in the same car.
In addition, a young couple from Monmouth, Ill., occupants of the other vehicle involved, were also killed.
The only survivor from the tragic accident is Mrs. James E. SIX, a patient in the Burlington Hospital with a broken back. Her condition was listed as fair this morning.
James E. SIX was born and reared in Fairfield and was the son of Mrs. Everett SIX, 1102 Liberty Drive.

The head-on crash took place about 2:27 a.m. Sunday morning on U.S. Highway 34 west of Gladstone, Ill., and about ten miles east of Burlington.
Illinois Patrol officers said the SIX car was traveling west, and a car driven by Gary Kellogg, 21, Monmouth, Ill., was going east. They said the Illinois car swung into the lane of the other vehicle on a curve known as "Meades'" curve, crashing headon.
All accident victims were pronounced dead at the crash scene except Debra SIX, 16, who died en route to the hospital; and Mrs. SIX who is a patient in the Burlington Hospital.
Occupants of the SIX car included Mr. and Mrs. SIX, their three children; and Mr. and Mrs. STANBROUGH.
Those in the Illinois car included the driver, Gary Kellogg, and Jeanne M. Curtis, 20, Monmouth, Ill. Both were killed instantly.
