Pioneer Resident Succumbs At 92

James H. "Ora" CUMMINGS, pioneer Jefferson county resident, died last night at the Jefferson County hospital where he had been a patient since Feb. 6. He had been in failing health for a year and seriously ill for a week.

A retired farmer and lifelong resident of the county, CUMMINGS was 92. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral home in charge of Dr. L. L. Weis. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

He was born near Salina Sept. 25, 1861. On Dec. 18, 1884 he was married to Priscilla CASTELL who preceded him in death Feb. 13, 1920. He was married to Mrs. Kathryn RANDALL Oct. 23, 1929 and she died Aug. 23, 1947.

CUMMINGS was active in farming until 1925 when he moved to Fairfield. He maintained his home at 204 E. Washington street until failing health caused him to move to the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ethel CUMMINGS at 304 W. Adams. He had been bedfast since suffering a stroke in 1951.

CUMMINGS was a member of the Methodist church and a 50-year member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge No 4.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Two infant daughter and a son, Clarence, preceded him in death.

Odd Fellows Will Attend Funeral

Members of I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 4 will meet at the lodge hall at 1:30 p.m. Friday to attend the Ora CUMMINGS funeral in a group.

That announcement was made this morning by officers of the organization.

The services will be held at the Weston Behner funeral home with short I.O.O.F. rites there. The services will begin at 2 p.m.
