Bonaparte

Gerald Albert KELLER, 92, of Bonaparte, Iowa, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021, at the Keosauqua Health Care Center in Keosauqua, IA (note: in Van Buren Co., IA). Funeral services will begin ag 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, IA, with Pastor Mark Caston officiating. Burial will be in the Bonaparte Cemetery immediately following. Military honors will be provided by the Bonaparte Legion Post 563. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2021, at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in Gerald's honor may be directed to the Bonaparte Cemetery Association or to the Bonaparte First Responders and may be mailed to P.O. Box 152, Bonaparte, IA 52620. Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Gerald Albert KELLER was born on December 29, 1928, in Jefferson County, IA, to Marshall and Hazel OLSON KELLER. He attended school at Cedar Creek 4 North of Stockport, IA. When Gerald left school, he worked several jobs before joining the United States Army where he proudly served his country as a tank operator in the 180th Infantry in Korea. For his service and bravery, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal and two Bronze Stars. Upon his honorable discharge he returned home where he worked for a short time at the Bonaparte Mill and in 1955 Gerald was united in marriage to Mary Alice McCRACKEN. The two became loving parents to four children and remained by each other's side until Mary Alice passed away in 1983. Gerald began working at Corey's Machine and Tool where he was a machine salesman until his retirement. Gerald loved spending time outside working in his garden. He was an active member of the Bonaparte Legion Post 563 and helped with many military funeral honors.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice KELLER; three brothers, Harold, Wayne and Verne KELLER; and longtime companion, Leah McCRACKEN.

Left to share his story are his children, Eddie KELLER of Keosauqua,IA, Stanley KELLER of Des Moines, IA, Bonnie (Larry) LaCERRA of Chesapeake, VA, and Sally (Wayne JERTSON) KELLER of Blair, NE; as well as many extended family and friends.
