Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Mrs. Emily Ann Day, resident of Portland, Ore., for the last 50 years, who died July 1, aged 99y. 7½ m. Born Nov 17 1831 in Springfield, Ill., she moved to Oregon in 1859 with her husband Stephen C. Day, to whom she had been married at Fairfield, Iowa Sept 7 1852. They went around the horn in the Great Northern, a sailing vessel which sank on its return trip from San Francisco to New York. By boat they went to Oregon City where they embarked on a river steamer for Albany, Oregon, their destination, and reached it after three days in which the boat caught fire three times and all the children aboard broke out with scarlet fever.....Mr. Day died in 1894. Surviving children..... (names), 19 grandchildren, 21 greatgrandchildren.....
