DEATH CLAIMS IRA. N. CROW, 68 LOCAL DOCTOR

Dr. I. N. CROW, prominent Fairfield physician and surgeon, and a member of the state board of health since 1945, passed away about 9:30 p.m. last night at his home, 104 Wilson Blvd.

Dr. CROW had been in failing health for some time, but his death last night was sudden and unexpected.

He was not only well known in Fairfield and Jefferson county as a doctor, but was also known for his interest and participation in social, civic and church affairs.

A long time member of the Rotary club, he served as president of that organization in 1941. He was an active member of the Methodist church, and a member of the Jefferson county Medical Associaton, serving as its secretary for a number of years.

Dr. CROW was appointed to the state board of health in January, 1945, by Bourke B. Hickenlooper, then governor of the State of Iowa, and has served as a member of that board since. In addition, he was also a member if (sic) the Iowa State Medical Association and held several offices in that organization, including chairman of public relations committee, and a member of the pre-insurance payment plan.

Although he was a medical doctor and a surgeon, Dr. CROW was known throughout state medical circles as a specialist in the field of eye, ear, nose and throat treatment. He was author of a manuscript, "Common Cold" which was broadcast over several Iowa radio stations in 1945. The manuscript gave a wide description as to the cause and control of the common cold.

Last rites for the Fairfield doctor will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the First Methodist church with Dr. L. L. Weis in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Ira Nelson CROW, 68, was born December 11, 1881, at Webster, Iowa. He was united in marriage on August 30, 1916, to Ermabeth BROWN, who survives. The wedding took place at Marengo, Iowa.

The CROWs moved to Fairfield in May, 1922, from Marengo, and Dr. CROW had practiced medicine in this community since. His office at the present time is located over the Gaumer Bros. drug store on the northwest corner of the square. He had been a physician and surgeon for 42 years.

Dr. CROW served in the armed forces during World War I, and was an officer in the State Guard Medical Detachment stationed in Fairfield during World War II.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Barbara Jeanne, at home; a son, Herbert M. CROW, Casper, Wyoming; and a granddaughter, Carol Lynn CROW.

The following brothers and sisters also survive: A. D. CROW, Mrs. Dora HARPOLE and Mrs. Carrie DuVAULT, all of Winterset, Iowa; and Roy V. CROW, Afton, Iowa. One son and two brothers preceded him in death.

Arrangements for the funeral are in charge of the Weston Behner funeral home.
