KATHERINE CRAWFORD DIED IN HOSPITAL AT IOWA CITY SATURDAY

Katherine CRAWFORD, the 12-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John CRAWFORD, formerly of Fairfield, died in the University Hospital in Iowa City Saturday evening at six o'clock (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic church here at 9:00 o'clock this morning, conducted by Father Courtney of Pleasant Plain, and interment was in Evergreen cemetery.

Katherine was born in Fairfield, July 17, 1914, and had lived here all of her life until the family moved to Iowa City last July to be near the father, who for months has been a patient in the hospital there. Katherine was eight weeks in the Hospital here and then was taken to Iowa City where she took treatment for ten weeks before she died.

She is survived by her parents, sister Elizabeth, and three brothers, George, Ralph and Charles.

Note: Buried in Lot 1st.011, with no gravestone. She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth CRAWFORD, whose maiden name was CECIL per Katherine's death certificate, and has been found in a marriage record as CICLE (perhaps SICKLE, or VAN SICKLE?). Katherine's obituary notes a birthdate of July 17, 1914, however her death certificate gives her age at death (on September 18, 1926) as 12 years, 3 months, and 11 days, which would be a birthdate of June 7, 1914 (which is not noted on the DC). Katherine's father John died in 1929 and is buried next to her, but the whereabouts of mother Elizabeth is not known at the time of this posting.
