Edna H. COURTNEY, 96, of Nelson Nursing Home died at 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at the nursing home.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to United Methodist Church or Nelson Nursing Home.
Mrs. COURTNEY was born Nov. 10, 1901, in Batavia, the daughter of August and Anna JOHNSON NORDGREN. She married Clarence W. COURTNEY June 27, 1923, in Estes Park, Colo. He died Jan. 7, 1992 (sic - 1993).
Mrs. COURTNEY lived most of her life in Fairfield with previous residence in Agency. She graduated from Drake University in Des Moines. She was a school teacher and homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Philathea Sunday school class, arts and crafts department of Fairfield Women's Club, and a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley HERTEL of Fairfield and Marilyn JUNGMAN of Van Meter; one son, Robert COURTNEY of Globe, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Arnold NORDGREN of Mishawaka, Ind.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, William B. COURTNEY; four sisters, Florence HILL, Mamie BALES, Maude FREDERICKS and Marjorie NORDGREN; and one brother, Harry NORDGREN.
