LONNIE LEE PICKERING SR.
Pleasant Plain

Lonnie Lee PICKERING Sr., 78, of Pleasant Plain, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021, at his home.

Lonnie was born on August 13, 1942, in Pleasant Plain, Iowa, the son of Cloyce and Maxine (WOLFE) PICKERING. He graduated from Pleasant Plain High School. Lonnie was united in marriage to Karen S. BAKER on August 27, 1958, in Brighton, Iowa. He worked at Rockwell International in Fairfield for five years, and then went to work for John Deere in Ottumwa for 30-plus until he retired on August 30, 1996.

Lonnie loved music and spending time with all of his family. He was an accomplished guitarist who enjoyed sharing his talent with others. He was a wonderful teacher of music and playing the guitar.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, of 62 years; his children, Lonnie PICKERING Jr. (Jolene TRATCHEL) and Barb (Dan) WATERHOUSE; 32 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters, Debbie (Jim) DUNBAR and Kay (Les) WHITAKER.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dave PICKERING; a grandson, Eric WATERHOUSE; an infant granddaughter, Carissa WATERHOUSE; and a brother, Francis PICKERING.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at the Marion Avenue Baptist Church in Washington, with Pastors Joseph Brown and Larry Brown officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 10:30 until service time. Burial will be in the Pleasant Plain Friends Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Promise Land Project at the Marion Avenue Baptist Church in his memory.
