James "Jim" E. KENNEDY, 89, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at his home.

Jim was born April 9, 1931, in Oxford, Iowa, the son of Dennis and Rachel LINKHART KENNEDY. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1950 and proudly served as corporal in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict). Upon his return from service, he married Rosemary MILLER in Oxford, Iowa, on Oct. 21, 1954.

Jim sold Bluebird School Buses, and was later district sales manager for Moorman Feed Co. Following retirement, Jim owned and operated Kennedy Car Wash.

Jim was an active member of the VFW and emceed many Memorial Day celebrations in Fairfield. In addition, he was a member of the American Legion and Elks (B.P.O.E. 1192). Jim, along with his wife Rose, were strong supporters of FHS athletics. He was president of the Fairfield Booster Club and he was the first radio broadcaster for FHS sports along with Don Swan.

Jim is survived by his wife, Rose; and their children, Barbara (Bob) KISTLER of Fairfield, Kevin (Sheila) KENNEDY of Ingleside, Ill., Tom (Maureen) KENNEDY of Quincy, Ill., Ted (Barbara) KENNEDY of Phoenix, Ariz., and Martha (Joe HOBAICA) KENNEDY of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Survivors also include his sister, Mary KNOWLING of Oxford, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at Behner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at the funeral home with military honors following the service. Cremation will follow the service with inurnment at a later date at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Oxford, Iowa.

Memorials may be made to FHS Athletics or FHS Drama Club and mailed to 503 Hillside Dr., Fairfield, IA 52556.
