BOBBIE GENE FILER
Birmingham

Bobbie Gene FILER, 89, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Birmingham, Iowa, passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2021, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa (note: in Marshall Co., IA). A graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham (note: in Van Buren Co., IA). Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Bobbie Gene FILER was born May 9, 1931, in Fairfield, Iowa, to John and Chloe CALVIN FILER. He attended Birmingham High School, where he excelled in sports, especially basketball, where he was quite the star. He graduated with the Birmingham High School, Class of 1948. Not long after graduation, Bob joined the Marine Corps, where he proudly serviced (sic) his country during the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict) and was awarded the Purple Heart.

On April 28, 1951, Bobbie married the love of his life, Ardis Virjean KRACHT in Fairfield, Iowa. The two became loving parents to five children, Stephen, Philip, Christine, Cynthia and Alan. Bobbie worked hard to support his family. He spent many years working in industrial engineering and manufacturing as a part of the management team at FMC-Linkbelt.

Bob loved the outdoors, which included hunting and fishing and treasured sharing those experiences with his children and grandchildren. Bob's greatest passion, however, was his Savior, Jesus Christ. He went out of his way to tell everyone about the Good News and was not bashful about professing his faith. Bob was a proud, long standing member of Oakland Church of the Nazarene.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Ardis FILER; his parents, Jonny and Chloe FILER; stepparents, Marty and Verla ANDERSON; and two siblings, Larry ANDERSON and Beverly WILSON.

Left to share his story are his children, Stephen (Jan) FILER of Minnesota, Philip (Angela) FILER of Georgia, Christine (Dan) NEKVINDA of Cedar Rapids, Cynthia (Paul) BARNES of Ottumwa and Alan (Liz) FILER of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren, Joshua HASKELL, Carly BURRELL, Andy FILER, Jake FILER, Ellie FILER, Emily MARKEL, Mathew FILER, Erin LeMIEUX, Dustin NEKVINDA, David PHILLIPS, Mary Ellen MILLER, Austin FILER and Stephanie FILER, as well as many extended family and friends.
