Robert L. TREE was born on February 21, 1927, in Chicago, IL, to Orville and Edwina LLOYD TREE. His early years were spent in Illinois where he attended school and fostered his love of education and the performing arts. He had a passion for history and focused on it throughout his education, earning his undergraduate degree from Grinnell College and a doctorate from Northwestern University. Dr. TREE began his long teaching career as a history professor at Parsons College in 1955, where he taught for fourteen years. He also spent four years as the Dean of Faculty at Parsons College. When Parsons College closed, he accepted a job as the American History Teacher at Fairfield High School and eventually taught at Iowa Wesleyan College (now Iowa Wesleyan University), retiring in 1993.
Robert was active in the Fairfield community, as a member of the Elks and the Fairfield Country Club and several other organizations. He could always be seen attending events around the community and he had his own reserved seat for shows at the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center. He was a benefactor for Iowa Wesleyan College and the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. He was a valuable member of both the Fairfield Concert Association and the Fairfield Art Association and his presence will be missed by the community and his many friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by a second cousin.
His memory will live on in the lives of his many friends and students he met along the way.
"Art doesn't give rise to anything in us that isn't already there. It simply stirs our curious consciousness and sparks a fire that illuminates who we have always wanted to be." --Kamand Kojouri
