OBITUARY

Alonzo Crafton (sic) CONNELL

Alonzo G. was the youngest of the three children of Mr. and Mrs. Robert CONNELL. He was born at Rockville, Maryland on the 11th of March in 1861 and passed away at his home in Davenport, Iowa Sunday morning, November 16th at 1:45. At the time of his death he was almost 70 years of age. Growing to young manhood in his birthplace he decided to come West in 1880 and came to Jefferson county, Iowa. Here he lived till 13 years ago when the family home was moved to Davenport, Iowa.

He was married to Leora NICHOLS (sic - NICKELS) on March 29, 1886 and lived happily in this union till he passed on. Nine children were born to Mr. and CONNELL all of whom, save Harold who died in infancy, survive. His home was the center of his life and his continual joy was to be with his children. To mourn their loss he leaves his sorrowing wife and eight children: Mrs. Earl CARTER of Fairfield, Mrs. Elmer HOSKINSON of Charles City, Mrs. Fred BATES of Fairfield, Fred CONNELL of Davenport, Mrs. Emma HALL of Chicago, Mrs. Shirley POSTON of Moline, Ill. Robert CONNELL of Davenport and Mrs. Alvin WITT of Davenport. Six grandchildren survive him and with a large number of relatives and friends will mourn his passing.

Mr. CONNELL was a member of the Christian church for many years and he was a charter member of the Eagles fraternal order in Fairfield. For over a year he has been sick and recently has been a great sufferer. Patiently he bore his affliction and at the end passed peacefully away while surrounded by loved ones. He was conscious till the last moment conversing with those watching over him and his passing, while bringing sorrow and bereavement to loved ones, releases him from the intense suffering he has been going through.
