Mr. CLARK had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church since early life, was active in its works and lived according to its teachings. He was a man of deep convictions, of undoubted integrity, and his death will be very generally mourned as the loss of a useful man and a good citizen. There are many friends throughout the county who sympathize with the family in this affliction.

Death of a Pioneer.

At eight o'clock Tuesday morn, Jan. 5, 1904, the light of life flickered out in the mortal frame of Loren CLARK at the advanced age of 76 years. He was born in Ohio but came to Iowa when a young man. In the early 70's he was married to Jane VAN NOSTRAND, who lived but a short time. He was again united in marriage a few years later to Laura GREEN, who survives him with four children: Chas., Stella, Roy and Clarence, one babe, little Maggie, dying in infancy. He purchased a farm one and one-half miles south of Beckwith in an early day and has ever since made that this home. During his long residence in Jeff. Co, he was actively engaged in farming and was identified with the religious interests of the community. He was a life long member of the M. E. church at Bethesda and as long as health permitted could always be found in his accustomed place on the Sabbath day, and whether he was Supt., teacher or a scholar, he was always there ready to perform his mission. He enjoyed the presence of his entire family during his last sickness, which was of several months duration. The funeral services were conducted at the Bethesda church Tuesday at ten o'clock, by Revs. Horton and Slack. A large concourse of people were present to pay their last respects to their friend and neighbor, after which the mortal remains were conveyed to the Evergreen cemetery and laid to rest to await the resurrection morn.
