FairfieldJacquelynne Jean METCALF, 81, of Fairfield, passed away Nov. 22, 2020, from natural causes.
Jacque was born Jan. 7, 1939, in Hinsdale, Ill., the daughter of Lester and Evelynne MILLER of Naperville, Ill., and a granddaughter of Danish and German immigrants to the Chicago area. She graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1957 and proceeded to Purdue University to advance her studies and passion for education. She would meet a gallant young man while on vacation in Wisconsin, Fred METCALF, to whom she fell in love with and married, lasting for over 62 years.
Jacque and Fred traveled Europe together while Fred was in the Army, began raising a family, and eventually put down roots in Libertyville, Iowa, on a small farm that they built together. Here they raised their four children, Kris, Kent, Kara and Karl, by instilling their passion of conservation, education and understanding of the natural world. She enjoyed spending time on the family farm, gardening and playing cribbage and Rummikub.
Jacque worked as a beautician in her early life, later translating her care and attention to becoming a registered nurse for Ottumwa Regional Hospital, where she was proud to care for those in need. Later in life, she worked for the elderly as a case manager, sometimes older than her clients, she worked tirelessly to help those who needed a voice.
She was immensely proud of her four children and their accomplishments. She dedicated herself entirely to the happiness and wellbeing of her whole family and remained a beacon of positivity in the most difficult times.
She will be missed greatly by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Fred; sister, Betty (Tom) HENSAL; children, Kris (Bethani) METCALF of Fairfield, Kent (Susan) METCALF of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Kara (George POULOS) METCALF of Mahomet, Ill., and Karl (Morae) METCALF of Birmingham, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandhcildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made in her honor to the Jefferson County Auxiliary or the Jefferson County 4-H, causes that benefit those in need and children's practical education.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at Fell Cemetery South of Libertyville, Iowa.
