Batavia

Rex Raymond BOOTH, 75, of Batavia, IA, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020, at his home. A graveside service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at the Batavia Cemetery in Batavia, IA, with David Benson officiating. Visitaiton will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Eldon, IA. The family will not be present during this time. Memorial contributions in Rex's honor may be directed to Hospice Compassus or to the Ottumwa YMCA Rock Steady Boxing Program. Rex Raymond BOOTH was born on October 31, 1945, in Ottumwa, IA, to Raymond and Velma (WILLIAMS) BOOTH. He attended Cardinal High School where he graduated with the class of 1964. Shortly after graduation Rex was united in marriage to the love of his life, Linda BENSON. They began their journey together as husband and wife on August 26, 1965, in Eldon, IA. This was the first chapter in a story that lasted over 55 years. Together they became loving parents to two children, Wade and Thad. Rex had a love for farming that began at an early age and remained with him throughout his life. Even though he worked away from home for many years at Chain and Cable in Fairfield, he was always a farmer. Rex understood the value of hard work but also understood the need to enjoy life. In his early years he played fast pitch softball and later served as a manager for the team. He loved to go bowling and never turned down a chance to pitch horseshoes. He was an avid hunter and an Allis-Chalmers enthusiast. He not only used the tractors but restored, maintained, and collected them as well. He spent his early morning hours having a cup of coffee at Denny's at the Eldon Y where he would share stories with friends and strangers. He always liked to cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes or his St. Louis Cardinals. He was a member of the Batavia Methodist Church and Fire Department. Rex was always soft spoken and thoughtful when he would speak. His words were chosen carefully and were always meaningful and kind. His love for his family and friends will not be forgotten.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Velma BOOTH; and a son, Thad BOOTH.

Left to honor his memory is his loving wife, Linda BOOTH; one son, Wade BOOTH; two grandchildren, Raymond (Hayley) BOOTH and Amy BOOTH as well as three lovely great granddaughters; one sister, Marilyn NANCE; as well as many extended family and friends.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the JCHC nurses, Hospice Compasses (sic), and the many friends and family who were a blessing the last several months.
