Word has been received here this morning of the death of Anton R. CARLSON, who served as treasurer of Jefferson County for almost 20 years before his retirement on Nov, 30, 1954. Had he served until the end of the year he would have completed 20 years.
Following his retirement Mr. and Mrs. CARLSON moved to Ottumwa where they had made their home for the past 11 years.
Last rites are pending. He was a member of the Fisrt Lutheran Church in Fairfield.

Last rites will be Thursday for Anton R. CARLSON, former long-time resident of Fairfield and former Jefferson County Treasurer who died Monday, May 1, at his home in Ottumwa (note: in Wapello Co., IA).
The funeral Thursday will be at 2 p.m. at the Lutheran Church with the Rev. Hoyt Whitebread officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
The casket will be taken from the Weston Behner Funeral Home to the church at 12:30 p.m. the day of the services.
Mr. CARLSON's death came at 8:20 a.m. Monday at his home in Ottumwa, 353 N. McLean. He had been ill for the past five years and bedfast for the past year. He had lived in Ottumwa for the past 12 years.
Anton R. CARLSON, 87, was born Jan. 26, 1880, in Sweden, the son of Frank and Chrsitina FRISKA CARLSON. He came to the United States when a small child and the family settled in Jefferson County.
He was a resident of Fairfield and Jefferson County for 74 years before moving to Ottumwa. He was a cashier in a local bank for 17 years, was in the hardware business for 14 years and served as Jefferson County Treasurer for almost 20 years. He retired from that office Nov. 30, 1954, and shortly after moved to Ottumwa.
CARLSON was united in marriage July 27, 1904, to Susie JOHNSON who survives. He was a member of the Lutheran Church here in Fairfield.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Robert M. CARLSON, Kirksville, Mo., two grandchildren and a brother, Elmer C. CARLSON, Indianola. He was preceded in death by one brother.
