Page 3 col. 4GEORGE CROSBY DEAD. GEORGE CROSBY, a man whom nearly every resident of Fairfield for the past 30 years has known, died at the home of WILLIAM LOWE in this city Monday about midnight. He had been confined to the house for several weeks, his illness resulting from a severe freezing of his feet early in the winter….64 years of age, came to Fairfield in 1851, since which time he has made this place his home. He was the father of a large family of children, all of whom, with the exception of one son, are now in Nebr., where his wife also lives. While at one time in fair circumstances, of late years CROSBY has led a precarious life. For a long time he had a little cabin on the Rock Island track below Read’s mill, chopping wood, quarrying stone or doing other similar work in order to secure the necessities of life. Surrounded by a number of dogs, which he ever considered his most faithful friends, he here led a sort of hermit’s life. Since his illness he has been in this city, and has had good care and medical attention. The remains were interred yesterday afternoon.
