Death of Mrs. BRECKENMAKER.

Leah ELLINGER, wife of Frederick BRECKENMAKER, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. NEIBERT, in this city Friday morning. She had been ill for two months or more from ailments incidental to advanced years. Mrs. BRECKENMAKER was born in Dauphin county, Penn., June 28th, 1827. She grew to mature years there and was married in Cumberland county, Penn., August 31st, 1845. She came to Iowa with her husband in 1886 and to this city in 1891. She was the mother of eleven children, six of whom, with the husband, survive her. Jacob M. lives at Kirkwood, Ill.; T. E. at Monmouth, Ill.; Gust. at Hummellstown, Penn., Frederick at Villisca; two daughters, Mrs. NEIBERT and Mrs. Anna HARRIS, reside in this city. Mrs. BRECKENMAKER was an affectionate wife and mother and her life was that of a sincere christian. She had bəen (sic) a member of the German Baptist church since childhood. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon by Rev. Abram Wolff and Rev. J. E. Corley, and the body was buried in the Evergreen cemetery.

Note: Buried in Lot SDof17-008. Husband Fredrick died in 1914 and is buried with her. A previous cemetery transcription listed her first name as Leagh, however her gravestone is quite worn and can longer be read reliably. In the various censuses she is Leah. Her age varies a few years between the censuses and her obituary. Most censuses are in line with an 1830 birth, and only the 1900 census asks for a month and year of birth which she reported as June, 1827. The WPA Graves Survey notes a birth year of 1830, as does the previous cemetery transcription.
