DEATHS.

Roy Rumer BEVERING.

But lately filled with the strength of a vigorous young manhood and looking brightly and hopefully forward to a life of great prospect and large accomplishments, Roy R. BEVERING, only son of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. BEVERING, died suddenly at the family home on Adams and B streets last Thursday afternoon, April 15. The blow was a terrible one to the family. He had been ill about two months but it was not realized death was so near. The illness started with a form of quinsy but complications developed.

The funeral took place from the residence Sunday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock, Rev. R. G. Jones, retor of the Episcopal church of Burlington, conducting the services, and interment took place in Evergreen cemetery. In spite of the severe rain that was falling during the afternoon, friends of the family crowded the house to its capacity and many were compelled to return to their homes through inability to find shelter during the services. The death is one of the saddest that has occurred in the city in many months. As testimonials of sorrow, respect and esteem, the scores of beautiful and costly floral offering in which the casket was banked, indicated the popularity of the young man in whose honor they were twined together by loving hands. Among the larger pieces were a pillow from his class in which was woven "Roy, 1911", a broken wheel as a token from the high school as a whole and large floral piece from the instructors. A large anchor was the contribution from the K. P. lodge, the cigarmakers of the city sent a large floral pillow, Bayz Bros. contributed a fine floral piece, a large cross came from the X. Nady family and a wreath from Mr. and Mrs. John RUMER, beside numerous other large gifts of flowers. Seldom has there been such a display of floral offerings.

Among those from out of the city who were present at the funeral were Miss Minnie BEVERING and E. J. BEVERING of Keokuk; Mrs. C. T. Miller and son, Cyril, of Chicago; Mrs. Harry N. BRANDALL of Amarillo, Tex.; Mrs. Hattie Dillon of Ottumwa and William Harkin of Richland. Six of the young men school mates acted as pallbearers. They were John Whitaker, Harold Voorhies, George Yount, Clyde Greef, Clifford Nady and Charles Clarke.

Active and full of strength, a recognized high school athlete, filled with activity, life and vigor from birth, the death of the young man is one that can hardly be realized by his friends and school mates. It has cast a shadow of gloom about them that carries a continued sadness.

Roy Rumer BEVERING was born in Fairfield September 23, 1890, and spent his entire life here. He was a member of Saint Peters Episcopal church of this city.

He is survived by his parents and two sisters, Mrs. Willard H. WHITAKER and Miss Virginia BEVERING.
