OBITUARY

SARAH FRANCIS BEATTY

Sarah Francis BEATTY, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah BARNES was born in Mansfield, Ohio, Jan. 18, 1845 and passed to her reward January 20, 1926 in Fairfield, Iowa. In the year of 1856, at the age of 11 years she came with her parents in a covered wagon to Fairfield, which at this early day showed promise of the beautiful little city which she grew to love so well. Here she grew to womanhood and, in the public schools received her education.

Early in life she became a member of the Old Harmony Methodist church which stood on grounds where Court House now stands and which with the old Zion united when the old church was erected which has recently been replaced by the magnificent new structure.

One of the happy memories she loved to recall was her attendance at the laying of the corner stone of the old Methodist church.

On June 28, 1866 she was united in marriage to Guy BEATTY who was one of the best known stock buyers of the county and one well known all over Iowa. A man connected with the business interests of Fairfield for a long number of years.

Their modest home was always an open house where thoughtfulness for those in need always prevailed and they were ever ready to extend a helping hand to those less fortunate.

Guy BEATTY passed away July 6, 1905.

One son Harry Theodore was born to this union who passed away Jan. 6, 1920.

For nearly seven years Mrs. BEATTY has been ailing and for almost two years she has been at the home of her cousin, Mrs. Fanny FULTON, who has devotedly cared for her, doing everything that was possible for her comfort as faithfully and kindly as an own daughter could do. This home in which her last days were lived was greatly appreciated by "Aunt Sadie" as she was familiarly called, and she was a patient, contented and appreciative sufferer, ever interested in every activity of which in later years she could have no part.

While her body was frail her mind was always bright and alert concerned for all around her and the things they were interested in.

She leaves to mourn her departure, two grand children, Mrs. Catherine NAFFZIGAR of Farmington, Iowa and Guyland BEATTY of Fairfield, her cousin, Mrs. Chester FULTON and three children, Lyle, James and Clairetta and many of the pioneer citizens of the community, who hold in kindly remembrance that this estimable woman who for so many years has had a place among us.

One sister of her late husband is here for the last sad rites also a brother. They are Mrs. R. A. CRAWFORD of Des Moines and Walker BEATTY, also Miss Grace MADDEN of Des Moines, Mrs. A. L. JUDD, Kanawha, Iowa and Mrs. Margaret BRANSON of Ames, nieces of Mrs. BEATTY. Funeral services conducted by Dr. H. B. Scoles of the M. E church were held at the Chester FULTON home. Mrs. Greef and Mrs. Pierson sang beautifully, two favorite selections and she was laid to rest in the quiet peaceful Evergreen cemetery. The pall bearers were life long friends of the family, Ralph Lamson, Henry Alston, William Wells, James Wilson, Leroy Williams and William Cook.
