Frank Hubert STEVER was born Jan. 3, 1943, in Fairfield, Iowa, to George and Eva (REIGHARD) STEVER. He graduated with the Fairfield High School, Class of 1961. Furthering his education, he received a B.A. from Parson's College (sic) of Fairfield in 1966. In 1962, Frank married Barbara ELLIOTT. Together, they became the proud parents of three children: Susan, Janine and Christine. The two later divorced. In 1980, Frank married Eleanor UNZNER in Mendota, Ill. This began a story that lasted nearly 40 years and saw the addition of three more children to the STEVER family: Matt, Donica and Carrie.
Frank worked in a diverse area of careers including store manager for the Behner Tea Co., founded Stever City Sanitation with his brother Harry, Jefferson County supervisor, and maintenance at the Dexter Foundry. In 2008, Frank retired from the Dexter Foundry and moved to Burlington, where he later decided to work as a courtesy driver for Deery Brothers. Frank cared deeply for the town of Fairfield. This was attested through his involvement in organizations such as the Fairfield Lions Club, Jaycees of Fairfield and The Arc of Jefferson & Nearby Counties.
Frank was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairfield. Frank most recently was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Fort Madison where he was elected president of the congregation. He never lost sight of his faith, being a steady disciple of Christ. Frank loved the ourdoors, especially deer and mushroom hunting. He was keen to taking leisurely drives in his truck, relished chatting up a storm with anyone, and loved being an active member of the farming community. He leaves behind a lasting impression that will not be forgotten by the ones he called family and the many that called him a friend.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, George and Eva (REIGHARD) STEVER; one sister, Margaret "Bucky" (STEVER) PARKER; a granddaughter, Barbara "Barbie" Jean SHANSTROM; and a nephew, Bryce Edward STEVER.
Left to share his story is his loving wife, Eleanor STEVER of Burlington, Iowa. He was the proud and loving father of his six children: Susan (Kevin) CUBBAGE of Fairfield, Iowa, Janine (Patrick) STARBUCK of Macomb, Ill., Christine (Eric) CRAWFORD of Great Mills, Md., Matthew (Dixie) STEVER of Elkhorn, Wis., Donica (Michael) VANDEROHE of Clilnton, Iowa, and Carrie (Aaron) LAPPE of Granger, Iowa; five siblings, Harry STEVER, Mary (Tom) TERRILL, Ralph (Sandy) STEVER, Kathy (Bill) KIDDOO and Cynthia (John) THOMPSON. He doted on his 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many extended family and friends.
