BOTH PARENTS TAKEN WITHIN THREE WEEKS

The saddest chapter in a sad story was recorded today when Mrs. Lucy ARMSTRONG, who, for the past week has been critically ill at the Jefferson County Hospital died. She passed away at 10:30 a.m., having succumbed to pneumonia.

Just three weeks ago her husband Charles ARMSTRONG died of the same disease at the Hospital. Three of their children have also been critically ill with pneumonia, and were just today able to be removed from the Hospital. Four small children survive their parents, Howard, age 14, Florence, age 12, Marie, age 11, and Ina age three years. Before her marriage to Mr. ARMSTRONG in Brighton fifteen years ago, she was Miss Lucy FRAIN.

The funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at eleven o'clock from the Baptist church in charge of Rev. A. R. Toothacre. The remains will be interred in Evergreen cemetery.

Have You Room For One Of These?

Four children, the oldest of whom is a boy of 13, are homeless as a result of the death of both parents in just three weeks. They are: Howard ARMSTRONG, 13; Florence ARMSTRONG, 11; Marie ARMSTRONG, 10, and Inez, 3.

These children come from a good home and want a good home to go to. They will go separately or collectively. All are bright and well-trained and, with the exception of baby Inez, can be of considerable help around the home.

If you have room in your home, and there is nothing to prevent, why not take one of these children--you may adopt it if you wish. If you will do this, notify Mrs. M. Chilcott at Fairfield.

Comment

Death is always sad, but some deaths are so much sadder than others that there is scarcely any comparison. One of the saddest to come to our attention is that of Mrs. Charles ARMSTRONG which is recorded in another column. Just three weeks prior to her death her husband answered the final summons, and now she is gone and four children, the oldest of whom is thirteen and the youngest three, are left without parents and without a home. At a glance it seems unjust that these children should be forced to make their preparation for life without the loving guidance and training of parents. But the ways of the Almighty are beyond the comprehension, and it must fit into His plan.

Sometimes it seems as if such things happen so as to give some persons an opportunity to demonstrate their usefulness in the world--a sort of a test of the brotherhood of man.

There are scores of homes in the city and the county where the entrance of these children would be a real blessing: homes in which these children could bring happiness and gain happiness; homes where the small expense of providing for one--or all--would cause no inconvenience or hardships; homes in which there are no children--perhaps they have never been blessed with any.

And yet we venture to predict that when homes are found for these orphans they will be the homes which have known the trials and blessing brought by the little ones; the homes where a dollar is a great big piece of money--and scarce; homes where most of the luxuries of the world are missing. But, while the luxuries that money can buy are missing, the happiness and the contentment that come as a reward for service well and cheerfully rendered, and which money cannot buy, is there. Who would exchange happiness and contentment for all the luxuries of the world?

If you have room in your home, why not open up your heart and make room in it for one, or two, or all of these sadly bereaved kiddies?

Mrs. Charles ARMSTRONG

Mrs. Charles ARMSTRONG passed away at the hospital Monday after a week's illness with pneumonia.

Mr. ARMSTRONG passed away with the same disease just three weeks before and three of the children were very ill with the pneumonia at the hospital so that with the worry and anxiety and going and forth to the hospital, the poor woman was so exhausted that she had no power of resistance and soon succumbed to tee (sic) disease. The ssmpathy (sic) of the people go out to these four little children so sadly bereft of both parents. Mrs. ARMSTRONG was formerly Miss Lucy FRAIN and lived near Brighton.

Funeral services were held the Baptist church yesterday at 11 o'clock conducted by Rev. A. R. Toothacre, and the body was laid to rest beside the husband in Evergreen Cemetery.
