Ottumwa

I. Helen WALRAVEN, 73, of Ottumwa, died at 3:40 a.m. April 9, 2020.

She was born Sept. 3, 1946, in Fairfield, to Harold and Freida KELLER BRERETON. She married Jon WALRAVEN Sept. 3, 1982.

A 1964 graduate of Fairfield High School, she worked 38 years as a banker in Ottumwa. She worked at South Ottumwa Savings Bank from 1975 to 2004, and as a vice president and Real Estate Lender for Central Valley Bank/Midwest One Bank, retiring in 2012.

She was a member of Southeast Iowa Bankers Association and served on the boards of United Way of Wapello County, Habitat for Humanity, and Junior Achievement. She taught classes for Junior Achievement at Ottumwa High School as well as ran the Snowbowl fundraiser for many years. She also had coached and served on the board of YMCA Softball.

Helen enjoyed golf, bowling and meeting her friends for a drink.

Surviving is her husband, Jon; three children, Jeff (Tina) TURNER of Ottumwa, Shawn TURNER of Kellogg, Iowa, and Erin (Steve) FOX-BEARDSLEY of Fairfield; a stepdaughter, Melissa (Gary) RICHARDS of Riverview, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Jakob TURNER, Alisha TURNER, Jenna TURNER, Mitch TURNER, Piper FOX, Zoe FOX, Delaney RICHARDS and Emma RICHARDS; six great-grandchildren, including Grayson whom she helped raise; siblings, Rubyalyn STAPLES of Ohio, Jerry MAXWELL of Connecticut and Susan LONG of Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and many beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Steven HISEL; and two sisters, Thelma MAXWELL and Eileen HOAGE.

Her body has been cremated. Private inurnment will be at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. A time to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.
