TOM ALAN MIDDLEKOOP

Tom Alan MIDDLEKOOP, 63, of Batavia, Iowa, passed away Monday, April ,6 2020, at his home. Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 panedmic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time. A private family burial will be held in the Packwood Cemetery in Packwood, Iowa, at a later date. Visitation for Tom will be held all day on Friday, April 10, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield. The doors will open at 9 a.m. and remain open until 7 p.m. Family members will not be present during this time. Please use common courtesy and plan accordingly. Cranston Family Funeral Home will stay in compliance and not allow more than 10 people at one time in or around the funeral home (this includes our staff) and will also use the suggestion of CDC to keep people within six feet from one another. If you are unable to attend, but would like us to add your name to the guestbook, please call the 472-3176 and we will make sure to add your name. Tom Alan MIDDLEKOOP was born on June 14, 1956, in Fairfield, to John, Jr. and Dorothy (ANDERSON) MIDDLEKOOP. From the moment Tom took his first steps, he was a farmer, and was often by his father's side helping with the day to day operations of the farm. He attended school in Fairfield where he graduated with the Fairfield High School Class of 1974. Upon graduation, Tom began his full-time career as a farmer. Together with his father they raised row crops, cattle and hogs. Tom stayed close to his work as most farmers do, but still managed to find time to get in a slow pitch softball game or two. As time passed and his father's health began to fail, Tom stepped up to take care of the operation. He not only cared for the farm, but also helped care for his parents. He proudly continued his families farming tradition, farming the land with his International Tractors and caring for his cattle. In today's age of technology and farming, Tom kept it simple, but successful. Tom was a fan of the Minnesota Twins and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved to visit and was a quiet listener who absorbed information, often the "go to" for family history. He was an old soul who grew up around his father's friends and maintained those friendships over the years, as well as bridging the gap with the younger generation. The two main parts of Tom's life were farming and family. Even though he was gone too soon, we take comfort in the fact that he left where he began, and he was doing what he loved. He will be deeply missed by his family and his many, many friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, John Jr. and Dorothy MIDDLEKOOP.

Left to share his story are his sisters, Trudy (Ed) OLIVER of Batavia and Sue (Dennis CLARK) MIDDLEKOOP of Birmingham, Iowa; two nieces, Lindsey (Greg) JANSMA and their children, Mackenzie and Kooper; and Lauren (Matti PRICE) OLIVER-PRICE and baby PRICE to arrive in July; as well as many extended family and a host of friends.
