FairfieldEdwin Harvey JEFFREY, 84, of Fairfield, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at his home. Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings because of COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time. A private family burial, with military honors will be held in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield at a later date.
Visitation for Edwin will be held all day on Tuesday, March 31, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield. The doors will open at 9 a.m. and remain open until 7 p.m. Family members will not be present during this time. Please use common courtesy and plan accordingly. Cranston Family Funeral Home will stay in compliance and not allow more than 10 people at one time in or around the funeral home (this includes our staff) and will also use the suggestion of CDC to keep people within six feet from one another. We respect those that may not want to enter the funeral home and to accomodate that we welcome you to call the funeral home at 641-472-3176 during the visitation time and we will bring a memorial folder and a register book out to your car for you to sign. If you are unable to attend but would like us to add your name to the guestbook, please call the 472-3176 and we will make sure to add your name.

Edwin Harvey JEFFREY was born Dec. 12, 1935, in Packwood, Iowa, to Ralph and Erma LOUTH JEFFREY. He attended school in Fairfield, graduation with the Fairfield High School, Class of 1955. Shortly after graduation, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in June of 1959. Ed returned home to Fairfield where he met Joyce WADE. The two were united in marriage on July 3, 1960, at the First Christian Church in Fairfield. Together they became the proud parents of two boys, Jim and Jay. Ed began working at Rockwell International in Fairfield as a machinist. He was a devoted employee for 36 years until his retirement. Ed loved spending time outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, as well as a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment. Ed found comfort and relaxation in a long ride on his Harley-Davidson. Ed was a member of the First Christian Church and served on the Fairfield Police Reserve for 15 years. He was a caring husband, loving father and grandfather, and devoted friend who will be deeply missed.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to share his story is his loving wife, Joyce of Fairfield two sons, Jim JEFFREY (Tiffani Webb Danielson) of Des Moines and Jay JEFFREY of Fairfield; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; four siblings, Dorothy (Bill) HUDSON, David (Nita) JEFFREY, Dale (Myrintha) JEFFREY and Mary (Ray) SHOTTEN; as well as many extended family and friends.
