OBITUARY

John Layton WRIGHT

Father, brother, neighbor, friend has fallen at the hands of that universal captain who disarms alike the victor and the vanquished.

Ivy poison and subsequent complications were the factors introducing that certain death and date foreseen by the eye of Him who is indeed the arbiter of our destinies. After about three weeks of illness the final summons came, July 24th, terminating a career extending through almost 83 years of time.

The subject of this sketch was born Sept. 11th, 1840, in Scott county, Ill. He was one of the ten sons of Jacob and Rebecca WRIGHT. Two of this number remain, Isaac of Audubon county, Thomas of Golden City, Mo.

When seven years of age his parents brought him to Jefferson county, purchasing a pioneer farm which proved to be his only place of residence until death came.

June 15, 1879, he was married to Laura Jane RODABAUGH, who passed away Nov. 29, 1910. To this union one chold (sic - child), a son Henry Clay, was born, who together with his two grandchildren, Ruby and Rex, numerous nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends, are left to mourn this irreparable loss.

Mr. WRIGHT never made a public profession of religion but he died in the faith of the Old School Baptist church. He was a kind husband and a good father and an exemplary citizen.
