ALFRED WRIGHT PASSED AWAY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.

Alfred WRIGHT, a well known resident of this city, passed away yesterday afternoon about four o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John VAN PATTEN, on South Fourth street.

Mr. WRIGHT has been in failing health for the past year and confined to his bed for the past four weeks and death being due to dropsy.

The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at three o'clock from the VAN PATTEN residence and burial will be in the Wright cemetery southeast of the city.

WRIGHT.

Alfred WRIGHT, one of Fairfield's oldest and highly esteemed citizens, died Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John VAN PATTEN, on South Third street. He had been in ill health for a long time and his condition had been regarded as very critical for several weeks.

Mr. WRIGHT was born in Winchester, Ill., seventy-seven years ago but had long been a resident here. He had made his home with his son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John VAN PATTEN for several years. Three children survive; Mrs. H. J. BURNS, Los Angeles; William WRIGHT, Conway, Texas; Mrs. John VAN PATTEN, Fairfield. Four brothers are also left, one of whom, John, lives near Glasgow.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Thursday afternoon and burial made in Evergreen (sic - Wright) cemetery.

OBITUARY.

Alfred WRIGHT was born near Winchester, Ill., December 23, 1841; died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John VAN PATTEN, in Fairfield, April 1st, being nearly 77 years of age.

His parents came to Jefferson county in 1847.

In early life he was married to Mary LANGDON, who later died, leaving a daughter, who is now Mrs. Lyda BURNS of Los Angeles, Cal. Afterwards he was married to Mary WATSON, who died several years ago, leaving a son and daughter, who are now Wm. of Conway, Texas, and Mrs. VAN PATTEN. About 8 years ago he was married to Mrs. Rebecca TRAXLER, who also preceded him in death.

When about 35 years of age he united with the Old School Baptist church at Worcester (sic - Wooster), this county, of which church he was a member life-long.

Four brothers remain, Thomas of Golden city Mo.; E. H. of Wichita, Kans.; Isaac, of Audubon; John of near Worcester (sic).

The children have lost a kind father, the community a good citizen and the acquaintances a true and considerate friend.

Funeral services were conducted by Mr. B. L. Nay of Waterloo.

Burial in Wright cemetery, near Worcester (sic).
