OBITUARY.

Elizabeth COX was born in Jefferson county February 27th, 1850 (sic - Feb. 14th), died January 29th, 1903, at Chillicothe, Mo. Deceased was the daughter of Eli and Jane COX, pioneer settlers of this county. August 25th, 1867, she was married to John C. STEWART, who with two children, a son and daughter, survive her. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. STEWART lived for a number of years in Fairfield. They moved thence to Seymour and finally to Chillicothe, Mo., where they have since resided. In early life Mrs. STEWART was converted and united with the Ebenezer church, but upon changing her location a letter was granted her and she became a member and an active worker among the Presbyterians in her home town. Mrs. STEWART visited her parents here in September and apparently was in the prime of life: ambitious and energetic, one would not have marked her as a victim of disease. Her illness from neuralgia of the heart was brief, but very severe. Her brother, C. L. COX, was with her, also her daughter, Mrs. Lillie SHIELDS, Kansas City, Mo. Her remains were brought to her old home for burial and funeral services were held Saturday at the Wooster church, conducted by the Rev. McClure of Fairfield. She was laid to rest in the Wright cemetery. The casket was covered with beautiful floral offerings and a large assembly met to view for the last time one who was once so well and favorably known in the community where she lived so many years. The husband and son, who go back to the empty and desolate home, have the sincere sympathy of a host of Iowa friends. The sorrowing parents, feeble with age, will deeply mourn the loss of their only daughter. The brothers, C. L. of this county and John of Whitewater, Colo., are all that remain of a family of seven. How oft are we reminded that "death is no respecter of persons" and those to whom life apparently appears the brightest are freely gathered from their field of labor.
