SCOTT SMITH

Seventy-six years save twenty days! The days of our years are three score years and ten, and if by reason of strength they be four score years, yet is their strength, labor and sorrow."--saith the Psalmist.

Not so the closing decade of the life of Scott SMITH who passed peacefully away at his home in Cedar township, Saturday morning at 8 o'clock.

With the dawning of a new day his life went out into eternity. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nubia (sic) SMITH. He was born, grew to manhood and spent his entire life and died in the same home farm. He was a farmer and lived the unpretentious life of a farmer never having retired from the active work of life on the farm.

He was married fifty five years ago to Miss Elizabeth STEWART and they have traveled over one-half of a century of life together. Nntil (sic) that grim monster "death" has taken the husband and leaves the frail little companion to journey on alone. His last illness being heart trouble and other complications. In all through his sickness which was of about six months duration he was patient and ever hopeful. He did not aspire to office, caring not, for publicity, his home was his shrine, and it was there that he loved most to be.

He leaves besides his companion the following children, Mrs. Nettie MAHON, Stockport, Mrs. Clara EDWARD (sic - EDWARDS), Birmingham, Harlie of Fairfield and Will at home.

The last rites were held at the family home in Cedar township Monday at 10 o'clock conducted by Rev. Poole of the Fairfield circuit. A quartet sang "Home of My Soul" and "It is Well With My Soul", and the beautiful floral offerings were but silent tributes of the friends and he was laid to rest in the Wright cemetery. A fitting epitaph to his memory is "He hath done what he could."
