OBITUARY

ROY KELLER

"In the midst of life we are in death" was never more truthfully spoken than in the death of Roy KELLER, who was in the prime of life, with bright future prospects. Why? Oh, why! was he taken? But the answer comes, "God's ways are not our ways, and He knoweth best."

Roy Emery KELLER was born August 4, 1893 and passed away August 24, 1922, being at the time of his death aged 29 years and 20 days. His entire life was spent in Jefferson county.

He was married when but 19 years of age to Miss Nellie PARSONS, but after three years of married life they separated. Two sweet little daughters, Muriel and Virginia, were the fruits of this union. Although being separated, Roy always spoke of his wife in the highest esteem.

He then went back to his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gust KELLER of Cedar township, and he was ever a comfort and solace to them in their declining years; and they now sit in their great sorrow and ponder, "How can we ever live when our mainstay in life is taken from us."

Roy leaves besides his aged parents the following brothers and sisters: Frank, Jule, Gust of Canada, John and Lou, Mrs. Minnie RUBEY of Mt. Union, Mrs. Cora SILVES (sic -SILVERS) of Stockport and Mrs. Anna REED and a host of relative and friends For he made friends with almost all that he came in contact with, and once a friend always a friend.

Roy was of strong, robust nature, but this dread disease, appendicitis, had been making inroads in his system, and when medical aid was summoned five days before his death and he was told that an immediate operation was necessary to protect his life he strongly objected but through the influence of his parents he consented, providing that his loved ones would stay by his bedside continually. The operation at the Jefferson County hospital was a very serious one and although he rallied and lived and suffered untold agony for five days, death then came as the victor.

He was conscious and told them that he would meet them again in a better land.

And as the sun would soon be heralding the approaching of another day and its appearance would signal the birth of a new one.

It brought to mind the thought that the light of another life had gone out to rise with resplendent brilliancy in the bright eternal day.

The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the sorrowing ones and especially to the aged parents but they do not mourn as those who have no hope, as Roy had often expressed himself as a firm believer of the Christian faith.

He is at rest so why should his loved ones mourn.

Funeral services were held Sunday August 27 at 2 p.m. with Rev Putnam of Ottumwa in charge.
