FairfieldVirginia VanNESS, 93, of Fairfield, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020, at Sunnybrook Living Care Center.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at Behner Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 2, at Behner Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Cary and Pastor John Benedict officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rock Creek Cemetery, Ollie, Iowa (note: in Keokuk Co., IA).
Memorials may be made to Eagles Auxiliary or Hospice Compassus and mailed to Kenneth VanNESS, 504 West Adams, Fairfield, IA 52556.
Virginia was born March 17, 1926, in Ollie, Iowa, to Okey Eugene and Mable Sarah (BRADLEY) REINIER. She married Harold Warren VanNESS on Dec. 10, 1946. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before Harold passed away on March 17, 2001.
Virginia graduated from Ollie High School, Class of 1943. She and Harold moved to Fairfield in 1955. Virginia worked at Universal for 20 plus years. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary for many years holding various offices such as, president, vice president, secretary and treasure (sic). Virginia volunteered working at the Bargin Box (sic) and Hospital Auxiliary. When her kids played ball, she would work in the Little League concession stand. Virginia enjoyed playing bingo with the residents at the Jefferson County Home.
Virginia will be missed by her children, William VanNESS Sr. of Lockridge, Kenneth L. VanNESS of Fairfield and Sarah JOBE of Peoria, Ill.; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Okey and Mable; husband, Harold VanNESS; stepmother, Viola REINIER; brothers, Rex, Ed, Joe; and sisters, Margaret, Gladys and infant sister, Florence.
