Viola Louise DIEHL was born Nov. 14, 1925, in rural Jefferson Count,y (sic) to Rollie and Laura RADLEY HAWK. She grew up and attended school in Fairfield, where she graduated with the Fairfield High School Class of 1944. Shortly after graduation, Viola married the love of her life, Richard DIEHL. Together, they became loving parents to five children: Dennis, Vivian, Jeannette, Melvin, and Ron. Viola loved her role as wife and mother and worked hard to support her family. She spent many years as a Dietary Aide in the cafeteria at both the Jefferson County Health Care Center and the Parkview Care Center. Viola loved a good game of cards and enjoyed her time playing bridge at the senior center. She was a gifted cook, and often used ingredients from her own garden. Viola also was very proud of her extensive salt and pepper shaker collection. She was a member of the Bethesda Methodist Church until it's (sic) closing, and then became a member of the Fairfield First United Methodist Church, as well as the Richwood Willing Workers. Viola cared deeply for her family and always looked forward to a picnic with the family at Crapo Park in Burlington. She made the most out of her 94 years here with us and will be deeply missed by her family and the many friends she made along the way.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard DIEHL; one son, Dennis DIEHL; four brothers, Kenneth, Maynard, Willard and Kenneth HAWK; as well as one sister, Ethel HAWK.

Left to share her story are her children, Vivian DIEHL of Fairfield, Iowa, Jeannette DIEHL of West Burlington, Iowa, Melvin (Judy) DIEHL of Fairfield, Iowa, and Ron (Mirsada) DIEHL of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; as well as many extended family and friends.
