… Abel ROBERTS, an old and highly respected citizen of Pleasant Plain died very suddenly Wednesday morning. He had gone out to split some wood when the summons came. The funeral was held at 10 o'clock this morning. We hope to publish an obituary next week.

Obituary.
Abel ROBERTS, son of Joseph and Sarah ROBERTS was born near Milford Ind., June 21, 1830. He came to Iowa with his father in 1840 and settled near Pleasant Plain. He was married to Nuncy (sic) W. SHOCKLEY, June 13, 1849. to this union were born nine children, five of whom are living, two sons and three daughters.
In the year 1853 they moved to Pleasant Plain, where they lived until Jan. 8, 1883 when with his family moved to Martinsburg, Iowa, where he lived a respected citizen and a faithful worker in the church and Sabbath school work for fifteen years. Nov. 10, 1897 they returned to Pleasant Plain where he lived until the time of his death.
He was converted when 35 years of age in his own home, under the ministry of John Howard. He was a member of the Friends church from childhood. He lived a conscientious christian life, loyal to the church of his choice. He had a deep concern that righteousness might prevail.
On the morning of the 27th of May he suddenly passed out of the body into the great beyond, at the age of 78 years 4 months and 6 days.
Services were held at the Friends church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. A. J. Hanson. Interment was at the Walnut cemetery, Friday, May 30. …
