OBITUARY.

Ruth WHITSON was born in Wayne county, Indiana, Dec. 31, 1836, died at the home of her daughter, Mary TRACY, near Brighton March 15, 1912, aged 75 years 2 months 14 days. She lived with her parents in Wayne county, Indiana, until young womanhood when she was united in marriage to James FRAZIER (sic - alternately FRAZER) Aug. 16, 1859. She was left a widow by his death Aug. 13, 1890. She was again married to Elijah COOK in 1898 (sic - 1897) and again left a widow by his death Feb. 7, 1905. By her first marriage she became the mother of eleven children, eight of whom are living: Charles W. FRAZIER of Cuba, Mrs. Anna WILSON of Des Moines, Oliver M. FRAZIER of Economy, Ind., Lindley J. FRAZIER of Packwood, Mrs. Etta FREDERICK of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Mary TRACY of Brighton, Anuel FRAZIER of North Loup, Neb., and Mrs. Hannah EFFKAMP of Clinton. The three children not living died in infancy, one son and two daughters, buried in Walnut cemetery. Besides the eight children she has one brother, sixteen grandchildren who survive her. In all these years of care for her large family she revealed that sympathy and self denial and forgiving love which characterizes true motherhood. She always went directly to her Father in Heaven in earnest prayer for needed strength and guidance. Her last illness was accompanied with intense suffering which gradually subsided as the disease advanced. Through it all she realized that these light afflictions which are but for a moment worketh for us for more exceeding and eternal weight of glory while we look not at things which are seen but at the things which are not seen for the things which are seen are temporal but the things which are not seen are eternal. Her faith in Jesus and in her future home with God and the loved ones gone before may be expressed in these words of the poet:

I know not what the future hath,
Of marvel or surprise,
Assured alone that Life and Death
His mercy underlies.

I long for household voices gone,
For vanished smiles I long.
But God hath led my dear ones on
And He can do no wrong.

And so beside the silent sea
I wait the muffled oar.
No harm from him can come to me
On ocean or on shore.

I know not where His islands lift
Their fronded palms in air.
I only know I cannot drift
Beyond His love and care.
