ELOISE IRENE NORTON
Fairfield

Eloise Irene NORTON, the daughter of Charles Henry and Ella Anna TRAIL RUBEY, was born on April 24, 1914, at home in Jefferson County. She was an eighth grade graduate of Rural Schools of Jefferson County in 1929. She attended and graduated Lockridge High School in 1933. She attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, from 1935 to 1936. She continued her education in later years and was a graduate of Iowa Success, Ottumwa, Iowa, in 1961 and AIC Business School in 1973.

Eloise taught in the Jefferson County Schools, Fairfield, Iowa from 1933 to 1935, and again from 1936 to 1939. She was secretary at First Methodist Church, bookkeeper and head clerk at Davis Paint Store, head clerk at Martin Hardware store, secretary to Dr. Roberts, president of Parsons College, bookkeeper for Eclipse Lumber, secretary Big Dutchman, Clerk of Selective Services, Jefferson County, manager of Opie Interior Decorating, all of Fairfield and Montgomery Wards of Oskaloosa and Davenport, Iowa.

Eloise was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield.

On May 14, 1939, she was married to Verle Kenneth NORTON and worked as a farming couple from 1939 to 1947, and were later divorced in May of 1966. They were blessed with two children: Kenneth and Connie.

Eloise hobbies were ballroom dancing and belonged to the Polka Club. She held office of Most Excellent Chief of the Pythian Sisters of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and in 1993 receive rank of Past Chief.

Eloise passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, at Sunnybrook Living Care Center. She was 105 years, 8 months and 8 days of age.

Eloise is survived by her children, Kenneth Lee NORTON (Sharon) of Fairfield, and daughter, Connie Sue CLARK-LOUDERBACK (Nick) of Oskaloosa; grandchildren, Lora PACHA (Rick) of Coralville and Anthony Lee EHLERS of Altoona; and great-grandchildren, Cloe and Olivia PACHA.

Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Henry and Ella Anna TRAIL RUBEY; her brothers, Carrol Eugene RUBEY, Henry Mortimer RUBEY and Charles Henry RUBEY Jr.; and sisters, Enola Fern RICHARDSON Elsie Marie NEECE, Laura May LEU and Emma Lillian KURTZ.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at Behner Funeral Home, with Father Nick Adam officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be prior to the service starting at 9 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's or ASPCA. Cards and memorials may be mailed to: Connie CLARK-LOUDERBACK, 2405 255th St., Oskaloosa, IA 52577.
