She Was a Pioneer Woman.

Many friends in northern Jefferson county will be pained to learn of the death of Katherine SHOCKLEY, wife of James EMRY, which occurred at the family home two and a half miles west of Pleasant Plain Sunday. She had been ill about two weeks with intermittent fever. Mr. and Mrs. EMRY were among the earliest settlers of Penn township, the husband dating his residence there to 1840. They were married in 1842, and, with the exception of three years spent in Henry county, had made their home here continuously, and lived more than half a century on one farm. Eight children were born to them, seven of whom are now living. T. L., T. F., Eli, G. J. EMRY and Mrs. William POOL reside in this portion of Iowa, while Richard EMRY and Mrs. Sarah HOLMES make their homes in Nebraska. Mrs. EMRY was a member of the Society of Friends all her life, and was a most excellent christian woman. Her remains were interred in Walnut cemetery Tuesday, and the funeral was one of the largest in point of attendance which was ever held in that portion of the county.
