Larry Dean HELLER, 80, of Fairfield, formerly of Eldon, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019, at the Sunnybrook Living Care Center in Fairfield, Iowa. As were Larry's wishes, his body has been cremated. A time to visit with family and celebrate Larry's life will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield, Iowa.

Larry Dean HELLER was born Nov. 10, 1939, in Arlington, Kan., to Albert and Shirley REYNOLDS HELLER. The family moved to Dalhart, Texas, where Larry attended school and graduated with the Class of 1958. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country aboard the aircraft carrier the USS Enterprise. After his honorable discharge from the service, he began working for the Rock Island Railroad. His career eventually took him to Eldon, Iowa, where he worked as an engineer for the Rock Island. Larry worked hard to support his family and remained with the Rock Island until it's (sic) closing in 1980. He then began working for the ANR Pipeline (TransCanada) in Birmingham, IAowa (sic). He was a devoted employee until his retirement in 2000. Larry knew the value of hard work and could always be counted on to get the job done. He found peace and relaxation in taking his Harley Davidson (sic) out for a ride on the highways of Southeast Iowa. He will be deeply missed by his family and the many that called him friend.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert HELLER Jr. and Aldon HELLER; and one sister, Aliene MELIUS.

Left to share his story are his children, Rick (Rachelle) HELLER of Iowa City, Iowa, Scott (Chris) HELLER of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Niki PETTIT of Fairfield, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Tara HELLER, Alyssa OWNBY, Vivienne HELLER, Cassie DAY, Chelsea BANARES, Courtney HELLER, Claire PETTIT and Kate PETTIT; three great-grandchildren, Braylen MAYS, Brielle MAYS and Bailey JOHNSON; one sister, Shirley THOMPSON; as well as many extended family and friends.
