Death of Miss Mary EDWARDS

SALINA, July 29.--Miss Mary EDWARDS died in Fairfield, Saturday, the 26th, at Mrs. Brown's. She was taken sick at Mrs. Patton's, where she was staying, and her brother-in-law, George LUELLEN, moved her to Mrs. Brown's, where she was kindly taken care of by Mrs. Brown and her relatives until her Heavenly Father saw best to call her from this world of sorrow. Mary was in her 52nd year. She was born near Salina, on the farm where her brother L. C. EDWARDS now lives, it being the old homestead. Her father and mother died several years ago. They were among the first settlers of Iowa. Uncle Billy EDWARDS, as he was called by old and young, was a kind, good man. Mary was like her father in many respects. After her parents died Mary stayed with different families. She lived with old Mr. Ridinger for a long time. She had stayed with Mrs. Croy quite a while. She was possessed of ample means, and she was not obliged to work. Her sickness was of short duration. She was taken ill on the 17th and died on the 26th. She was brought on Sunday to her brother's, and at 2 p.m., Sunday, Rev. Wilkins conducted the funeral services at the house. A large procession of neighbors and friends followed the remains to the Richwoods cemetery, where she was laid to rest beside her parents. The friends have the sympathy of all. Mary has two brothers living and one sister -- L. C. EDWARDS, and Walt. EDWARDS, who lives near Brighton, and Mrs. LUELLEN, who lives in Salina.
