Death of Mrs. J. H. ALLENDER.

Mrs. J. H. ALLENDER died at her home near Salina last Saturday morning. She had been in poor health for several years, but confined to her bed since last August. She was of an alert, industrious disposition and strong will and kept going when others in the same condition would have given up and gone to bed.

Adaline Hill TEMPLETON was born in Ohio, December 2, 1831, and came to Iowa with her parents in 1850. She began to teach as soon as she reached the required age, and was for many years one of Jefferson county's successful teachers. She was married to J. H. ALLENDER February 12, 1861. The husband and eight children are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving wife and a devoted mother. Her death was the first break in the family circle. The children still in the old home are: Odessa, June, Gertrude and Rupert. The others are: Uloa, of Omaha; Willamette, of Menlo Park, Cal.; Thomas, of Fairfield, and Myrtle, of San Francisco, Cal. All were at home during her last illness.

Mrs. ALLENDER may be rightly classed among the pioneers of the county. Her acquaintance over the county was wide and she was ever known as a friend to the needy and a neighbor to rely on in time of trouble. In the neighborhood where she has lived for so many years she will be sorely missed and all have the deepest sympathy for the bereaved ones, by whom she will be doubly missed.

Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon and interment made in Richwood's cemetery. Rev. C. W. Cochran, of Burlington, was the clergyman in charge.
